What is a Smart TV?

#Smart #TV

It always pays to be smart when you are thinking about getting a new television - but it can be of great benefit if your TV is smart too!

The Smart TV has been around for a while, but the latest generation models have greatly improved the user experience compared to early Smart TVs, which to be honest were a little clunky to use.

In essence, a Smart TV is an internet-connected television that gives you things like on-demand services from All 4, BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub, offers access to streaming services like Netflix and connects you to other devices like smartphones and tablets.

It’s all about getting the best service at the touch of a button and most televisions on the market these days have the smart option, helping you to get the most from our TV.

Watching regular television programmes doesn’t require going online but if you are of the view that you want something extra then there are certainly benefits to be had by logging onto the internet.

So, what are the advantages?

Most Smart TVs now come with web browsers meaning you can view anything on your TV that you can see via your PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. You are also able to stream pictures, videos and music from other devices directly to your TV, and you can use apps, pre-installed or downloaded, which allows access to your TV catch-up services, keep up to date with Facebook and Twitter and stream things like Amazon Video and Netflix.

If you’re thinking of getting a Smart TV, you will need an internet connection with a good broadband speed. It is also a good idea to get an unlimited broadband package - meaning you won’t be going over your data limit while streaming.

You will find that most Smart TVs are wi-fi enabled allowing for wireless contact to your other devices and the internet router. Older models may not have this capability and will require a special adapter or Ethernet cable.

As you would expect there are many different makes of Smart TVs on the market and it can be difficult to know which one is best for you. Some come with a voice control feature making it even easier to ‘flick’ through the channels and others double up as a special hub where other devices like lighting and temperatures in the home can be controlled through your TV.

There are comparative strengths and weaknesses across the range of Smart TVs for sale and it’s a good idea to have a look at all the pluses and minuses of each one before you arrive at your decision about which one to go for.
